Sustainability and ESG
Environmental and social impact management across the Elemental Group.
01 · Strategic approach
Environmental and social impact management
The Elemental Group has strategically defined business development directions that support sustainable development. The ESG strategy identifies key areas in which actions are taken to best manage environmental and social impact.
The Group actively participates in global actions aimed at implementing a circular economy. We recover critical raw materials essential for the low-emission transformation and large-scale implementation of renewable energy, e-mobility, and further digitalization. We operate based on the principle of responsible development.
To produce green metals that enable sustainable development of the economy and ensure raw material security, while minimizing the impact on the planet.
02 · Impact on the environment
Mining vs. recycling — a fundamental difference
The solution to limited metal resources — especially given the negative impact of traditional mining on the natural environment — is urban mining. The Group recovers raw materials from waste generated in urban areas, following the principles of the waste management hierarchy.
Traditional mining
- EmissionsHigh — due to the low concentration of PGMs in primary ore (26 g/t) and significant production losses.
- Energy intensityHigh — mining, milling, and smelting of low-grade ore is deeply energy-hungry.
- Landscape impactHigh — degradation of terrain, surface water reservoirs, hydrogeology, and air quality.
Urban mining · what we do
- EmissionsModerate — much higher PGM concentration in spent catalysts (100–7,200 g/t) means lower per-gram emissions.
- Energy intensityModerate — recovery from concentrated feedstock cuts the energy per unit of output.
- Landscape impactModerate — no new terrain use; existing industrial infrastructure is reused.
03 · Social impact
A just transition — with people at the core
The Group recognizes that the ongoing transition from a high-emission to a low-emission economy requires support for a just transition — one that respects the rights of employees, local communities, and other members of society.
